This is a Final document approved at the scheduled meeting held on (Tuesday), March 14, 2023. The Tri-State Senior Softball League (TSSSL) convened for a scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 from 6:01 PM – 6:51 PM. The meeting was held at Wacohu Grange Hall, 16412 National Pike, Hagerstown, MD. The following Board members were in attendance: President-Dave Barnhart, Vice President-Donnie Helman, Treasurer-Tommy Hyme , Secretary/Webmaster-Mark Plumley, and League Manager-Bob Thomas. 20 additional league members were in attendance this evening. The President, Dave commenced the meeting at 6:01 PM and requested a motion to accept the January meeting minutes posted on our league website. Minutes were motioned and approved as written with no changes. Old Business: President, Dave opened by advising the members that we have received 3 sponsors checks so far for $450.00 each. He explained the $50.00 increase was to allow the league to purchase banners to display on the outfield fences on fields 1 and 2 at Marty Snook Park. The banners will provide additional exposure and advertisement for our sponsors. Cards were purchased for league members to sign for our sponsors, to thank and show our appreciation. - Dave mentioned that he has brought additional Registration and Waiver Forms and posters to display at local businesses. - He advised that the league is in need of new Bat Evaluator / Inspector, anyone interested can contact a Board member. - Dave made a trip to BJ's Embroidery and brought a shirt and two types of hats for league members to inspect and offer their input prior to our purchasing. (One hat has a snap type band, and one has velcro in the back). President asked Treasurer Tommy to provide the Treasury Report. Treasurer, Tommy advised that he has received 3 sponsors payments and that he has received 17 Registration forms so far. The league Savings account balance is currently $3448.00 and the league Checking account has $2500.00. 18 dozen new leather softballs have been purchased for $1276.38 at $5.90 per ball. He advised that the 501.C7 designation is still in progress, we are awaiting approval from the IRS. Vice President, Donnie had nothing to address. Secretary/Webmaster, Mark explained the On-line Registration is up and working on our league website. We have received 7 registrations, with 4 paying via PayPal. These payments went directly into our TSSSL Checking account. League member, Terry Grzadzielewski has provided additional printed posters that can be displayed at local businesses to promote our league. League Manager, Bob provided a recap of the recent Managers meeting. 4 or 5 rules have been modified and the changes have been posted on the league website. The make-up game rule was discussed with the league wanting canceled games to be played within two weeks, and/or a double-header the next time the teams meet. If the game is not completed by that time, both teams will be given a forfeit. New Business A question was asked regarding what additional fundraising events will the league be doing? Dave, explained that we have what was previously discussed and listed below, and we can add some additional during the season. - Online Fund Raiser through BJ's Embroidery - Food Nights at Stonebridge Pizzeria & Tavern - Food Nights at Jersey Mike's - 50/50 Raffles at All Star Game and/or League Championship Game - Off-Season Bonanza - League member, Craig Metz asked if Wednesday mornings can be utilized for our practice sessions? The league is planning on holding 12 practice sessions during the first 3 weeks of April. 4 practices each week, Monday through Thursday. Additional practices can be added, and it was pointed out that they are used primarily for stretching and batting practice. The Managers will use these to assess their teams needs. - A question was asked if the league intends on raising the Registration Fee? Dave explained we would like to use our Sponsorship donations and Fund raising money first and that we will continue to operate with a $50.00 registration fee for this season. Still to be considered for next season. - A question was asked if we are keeping the Women's age 35? Yes was the answer, and we will monitor to determine if whether we will keep it at 35, based on female registrants this season. If we need to change it back to 40, those players that signed up this season will remain members. - A question was asked, who will make the determination on rain-outs? Dave said it would be Dave Brooks, from the Parks Dept making that decision. It was requested that an early decision be made. - Discussions were had on the chalked lines and the 165 line in the outfield. It will remain the teams playing responsibility to complete. - March 14, 2023, league member, Craig Metz will provide an oversight on how the league conducts our Player Draft. A question and answer session will follow, on any and all issues concerning the operation of the league. The next scheduled meeting is proposed for (Tuesday) March 14, 2023. A motion was made to close the meeting and seconded. The meeting adjourned at 6:51 PM.
